The First Contact with the Centre.

The first-calling parents will speak to our staff member who will brief them on how the Centre operates, find out specific requirements of the family and the child, and discuss psychological, medical, legal and social issues in connection with Down syndrome. Individual meetings with a family counselor will be provided, if necessary.

You will be offered booklets dealing with specific methods of development of children with Down syndrome, and information on the programmes available at our Centre. Families residing outside Moscow can receive such information packages by post.

Downside Up Early Intervention Centre offers a variety of programmes that help children to develop and learn. The programmes are formulated for children of different age groups with account to families’ residence. They meet a child’s specific needs and parents’ individual requirements.

If you decide to cooperate with the Centre, you will be asked to provide basic information about your family by filling in a registration form.

The following programmes are offered to families residing in Moscow inside Moscow Circular Road.

If your child is under 18 months, he/she can join our Home Visiting Service whereby the families receive regular visits in their homes from one of our specialist. At 18 months a child together with his/her mother or father, or another family member starts attending an “Adaptation Group” which operates once a week in our Centre. Home visits continue, but become less frequent. If a family wishes to cancel home visits, they can receive regular consultations at our Centre.

At 3-5 years children attend group play sessions designed to develop communication, social, household and other skills in order to prepare them for pre-schools, and receive individual consultations from specialists (a speech therapist and specialists in kinesiotherapy and congnitive and emotional development).

In addition, Downside Up operates parent counseling groups and holds parent-teacher meetings three times a year for those families who participate in our programmes.
We also publish an information bulletin Make a Step.
