On the 6th November 2011 Downside Up Charitable Fund hosted its annual Fall In-Door Football Tournament among corporate teams. 14 teams competed for the Cup, and each won, as beating prejudice against individuals with specials needs or wrong beliefs about charitable giving is as importance as any major sports victory! During the intermissions there was a traditional ball juggling competition and an entertainment programme by courtesy of the “Open Arts” choreographic studio.
CHARITY SPORTS is a sports project where the main thing is participation. DownsideUpmass participation sports events help to raise funds for early intervention programmes for individuals with Down syndrome, and promote participation of people with disabilities in sports events together with other participants. Well-trained corporate league football players compete on a football field, and awards are presented by children with Down syndrome. Everybody wins!
1,300,000 rubles have been raised to benefit Downside Up early intervention programmes. Pro bono assistance was provided for Downside Up by MGIMO Volunteers Centre, the arbiter Alexey Andreyev, and Dynamo sport complex administration which provided the football arena free of charge.
