On 10th November a team of Timberland employees came to Downside Up to plant trees and flowers in the garden. They also made our children and educators very happy by bringing wonderful New Year costumes and other gifts.

In a few hours the volunteers planted lilac bushes, cherry trees, irises and tulips, and whitewashed all trees. In spring we will be able to admire the new look of our garden.

Then came the most exciting part of their visit: the volunteers handed us New Year costumes and development games for our pupils. A learning session for a group of children aged 3-4 had finished by then, and the kids rushed to try on the costumes. It was very touching to watch them have so much fun! The New Year is close at hand, and, thanks to our friends, we will be able to have fully-featured children costume parties.

Downside Up team members took the volunteers on familiarization tour around the Centre, followed by a tea party at which we answered our visitors’ questions about Down syndrome, the Fund’s history, about how we raise the money and on what we spend it on. It was great to witness the change in attitudes towards the children with Down syndrome. People usually have a vague idea about this problem until they visit Downside Up.

As a token of gratitude every volunteer received a souvenir - a set of Charity Christmas cards with a design based on our children’s drawings.
